Deputy Superintendent Burke is a graduate of Brookline High School (1978). He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University (1983) and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College (1996). He attended the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (2012). He was appointed to the police department in 1983. He worked in the Patrol Division and then in the Detective Division. In 1991 he was promoted to Sergeant working in the Patrol Division. In 1995 he was promoted to Lieutenant where he worked as a Platoon Commander Nights in the Patrol Division for one year. In 1996 he was assigned to the Detective Division in charge of the Office of Professional Responsibility. In 2011 he was assigned as the Detective Lieutenant in the departments Intelligence Unit until 2016 when he was promoted to Deputy Superintendent Detective Division. The Detective Division of the Brookline Police Department is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations of our everyday crimes, such as larcenies, breaking and entering’s, domestic violence, hate crimes, computer crimes, juvenile matters and sexual assaults as well as managing, directing and performing the investigation into any major crimes that have occurred within the town of Brookline. This is accomplished through the individual specialization of its personnel, as well as strong collaborative efforts with outside law enforcement agencies on the local, state and federal levels. The Detective Division’s expertise includes fingerprinting, photography, crime scene services, intelligence analysis, interviewing and interrogations. The division is responsible for Firearms Licensing, Sex Offender Registry compliance and the Evidence and Property Management of the police department. This knowledge, experience and training is brought into the investigative functions enabling the division to successfully contribute to the overall goal of the Police Department, which is providing safety and protective services for its residents and visitors alike.
