Safe Walking Tips

  • Always cross at crosswalks when they are available.
  • When crossing on a crosswalk, keep to the right.
  • At crosswalks with signals, only cross on proper signal.
  • Before crossing, look both ways and continue to check for oncoming cars as you cross.
  • Make sure all cars have come to a complete stop before crossing.
  • Try making eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you.
  • When there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic.
  • Wear clothing that helps drivers see you. When walking at night, carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.
