Robbery Prevention

  1. Robbery is a crime which the offender always confronts the victim, and is a threat to your personas well as your property.
  2. Don't be a hero. Don't resist robbers physically or verbally, or thay may be more likely to be violent.
  3. To help deter store robberies, keep your business tidy and clean. Walk around and keep busy even when no customers are in the store.
  4. Keep your store well lighted and visible from the street.
  5. Constantly be on the lookout for suspicious-looking people standing inside or outside the store.
  6. Before a crime occurs, set up a careful anti-robbery plans, including prearranged signals for employees.
  7. Do not keep substantial amounts of money in your store, especially at night. Never allow cash to accumulate in your register.
  8. Record serial numbers of a few bills, and keep them in your cash register permanently to help police track down the robbers.
  9. Try to schedule your bank deposits in the daytime at different hours using different routes.
  10. Make it known to the public that you are very concerened about your cash by displaying anti-robbery and anti-burglary decals.
  11. Always open and close the store in the presence of another employee or trusted person.
  12. Your cashiers should not balance or count reciepts in public.
  13. Always obey the orders of the robbers, and never hesitate to carry them out.
  14. Always retain your composure if confronted by robbers, and try to calm your employees and customers.
  15. Alert the criminals to possible surprises, such as the appearance of a returning employee.
  16. Get a description of the criminals and their vehicle.
  17. Call the police without delay after the robbers escape.
  18. Determine the amount of your loss, but reveal this only to the detectives who have been assigned to your case.
  19. Try to identify witnesses to the robbery, and take their name and addresses.
  20. Do not tamper with evidence.
  21. Keep the details of the robery secert.
  22. In your place of business, install a doorbell that rings adjacent to the store. Have your store neighbors act in kind.
  23. Select store emplouees with great care. Many robberies are accomplished with the assistance of an insider.
  24. If confronted by robbers on the street, follow their instructions precisely. Remember that your property is worthless compared to the value of your life.
