Enhanced 9-1-1
The Brookline Police Department receives more than 40,000 calls for service a year, including approximately 6,800 Enhanced 9-1-1 emergency calls. For Brookline Public Safety personnel and for Brookline citizens, Enhanced 9-1-1 has proven to be a vastly superior emergency communications system.
When the Enhanced 9-1-1 system was installed in Town facilities, as well as when subsequent lines have been activated, police and telecommunications staff have tested each phone, such as the Senior Center, to ensure Enhanced 9-1-1 readiness. Due to the precautions taken over the past two years, the Brookline Police has reported an accuracy rate well within state established Enhanced 9-1-1 guidelines. In those very few incidences when inaccuracies have been recorded, timely responses were provided and the discrepancies were reported to the appropriate agencies.
To ensure that every Enhanced 9-1-1 call made from a Town facility benefits from the full accuracy of this system, the following precautions are underway:
- All Town phone lines will be retested.
- The Town phone service provider will review and update its database.
- Public safety and telecommunications personnel will periodically monitor Town lines.
Nearly 90% of Brookline paramedic emergency responses take less than six minutes. Police and Fire first responder times are even faster. The Town will continue to take all steps necessary to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our community.
